Timur Kulibayev’s Fund invests 1 billion tenge in the Halyk Ormany project to plant 4 million trees
Together with the Ministry of Ecology, Timur Kulibayev’s Halyk Charitable Fund is implementing a large-scale landscaping program in Semey Ormany, the Ile-Alatau National Park and the green belt of the capital.
On September 16, Timur Kulibayev’s Halyk Charitable Fund and the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan signed a memorandum of cooperation. Within the framework of the Halyk Ormany (“People’s Forest”) project, the fund will invest 1 billion tenge, and more than 4 million trees and seedlings will be planted in the territories of Semey Ormany, the Ile-Alatau National Nature Park and the green belt of the capital.
National priority
President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev noted in his Address:
A reverent, careful and responsible attitude to the environment should become an integral part of our national ideology.
The Halyk Ormany project is in line with the tasks outlined by the President and supports the implementation of the national concept of Taza Kazakhstan (“Clean Kazakhstan”). The Fund’s initiative was a continuation of the course towards a careful and responsible attitude to nature, which the head of state spoke about.

Goals and significance of the project
The main task is to create new forests in ecologically vulnerable regions, restore ecosystems affected by fires, preserve biodiversity and ecological balance.
The project is of particular importance in connection with the tragic events of recent years. In June 2023, the largest forest fire in the history of Kazakhstan occurred in the Semey Ormany Nature Reserve: more than 60,000 hectares of forest were destroyed. These events have shown the critical need to restore forests and strengthen measures to prevent environmental disasters.
State support
Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yerlan Nysanbayev emphasized:
The most significant event that follows from the signed memorandum is, of course, the education of the younger generation, the inculcation of environmental culture. We have specialized enterprises, such as forestry enterprises and national parks, but we always try to involve the population in planting forests. Because, I think, a person who has planted at least one tree will never break a twig.

International context
Around the world, greening is seen as one of the key tools to combat climate change. New forests are not only the preservation of biodiversity, but also a contribution to the global “oxygen balance” of the planet. Kazakhstan, by implementing the Halyk Ormany project, makes a significant contribution to the global environmental movement.
Position of the Fund
Member of the Board of Trustees of Halyk Charitable Fund, Chair of the Board of Halyk Bank Umut Shayakhmetova noted:
It is important for us that Kazakhstan preserves its natural resources. Halyk Ormany is an investment in environmental safety and the future of the country. We join forces with the state and society for the health of the nation and future generations. And the Halyk Ormany project is one of the most valuable legacies that we will leave to future generations. This is not just planting trees, but a significant step towards protecting the nature of Kazakhstan. I am sure that thanks to the support of the foundation and the involvement of society, we will be able to improve the environmental situation in the country.

Systematic work
The Halyk Ormany project continues Fund’s systematic environmental activities. In the spring of 2025, the GreenAct eco-challenge was launched, encouraging the best environmental initiatives of both individuals and organizations. The project was attended by the country’s leading companies and active citizens, who presented dozens of creative ideas for nature conservation.
Earlier, the fund also initiated actions within the framework of GreenAct, which united thousands of Kazakhstanis. In the Ile-Alatau National Park, 3,500 fir trees were planted in honor of the heroes of the Great Patriotic War, and apple trees were planted in the Central Park of Almaty. These actions were an important step towards the development of environmental culture and the popularization of the principles of sustainable development.
Call for Participation
The Halyk Charitable Fund invites volunteers and all concerned citizens to join the Halyk Ormany project. The support of each person will help to increase the green areas of the country and make a personal contribution to the preservation of the environment.
