Competition for grants to Miras schools announced

The competitive selection for grants for studying at Miras international schools in Astana and Almaty has started. The program is aimed at supporting schoolchildren who want to receive an education according to international standards.
How to get a grant to study at Miras
Over the past five years, more than 1,500 high school students from different regions of Kazakhstan have taken part in the competition. During this time, 70 grants have been awarded, 20 of which cover the full cost of education. The amount of financial support can be 100, 50 or 30 percent. The competition is organized by the NNEF public foundation and the Halyk charity foundation.
‘The grant program enables talented students to develop their abilities and strive for high academic achievements. It also provides access to quality education that might otherwise be unavailable to them due to financial constraints. The program motivates not only scholarship recipients but also inspires their classmates to achieve better academic results,’ — said Mariya Kovzhasarova, Head of the Education Department at NNEF.

Since its establishment in 2016, the Halyk Foundation and its founders, Timur and Dinara Kulibayev, have allocated around 250 million tenge for educational grants to encourage and support the most talented and gifted secondary school students, as well as students in technical, vocational, and higher education. The initiative aims to increase students’ motivation to achieve high academic results and to contribute to the development of the country’s intellectual potential.
How to take part in the competition
Eligible participants are school students who have completed grades 9 and 10 with good or excellent academic performance. Additional preference is given to winners of international and national academic competitions. The selection process includes tests in native and English languages, mathematics, and an essay. For admission to the IB Diploma Programme, exams are conducted in English.
The competition is held in several stages. In Miras Astana, the acceptance of documents started on February 3 and will last until April 11, 2025. Testing will take place from April 14 to May 16, and the results will be known from June 2 to 13.
Miras Almaty accepts applications from February 15 to March 30, testing will take place from April 1 to May 14, and the results will be announced from June 1 to June 15.

What does studying at Miras give you?
Last academic year, graduates of Miras schools from Almaty and Astana demonstrated outstanding results in their studies, receiving grants at such universities as University College London, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, École Polytechnique, Boston University, King’s College London, etc.
Moreover, the Halyk Foundation supports talented graduates even after school if they are admitted to foreign universities. For example, Nazar Berkimbai, a graduate of Miras in Almaty, received offers from five universities in the USA, France, and China, four of which offered a full scholarship worth $500,000. He chose École Polytechnique in Paris — one of the world’s top mathematics schools. The Halyk Foundation covers his stipend, accommodation, and travel expenses for the entire period of his studies.
Benefits of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Programme
The International Baccalaureate (IB) programme, created in Switzerland in the 1960s and now administered by the Geneva-based International Education Foundation, was originally designed for the children of diplomats and was developed as a universal system of study that would provide quality education regardless of the country of residence.
Over time, the IB has expanded beyond diplomatic circles to become one of the best educational programs in the world. Today, the IB diploma is highly valued in higher education institutions around the world, and its graduates have significant advantages when entering.
The IB assessment system is transparent and objective: exam papers are assessed by international experts who are unaware of their country of origin. This ensures uniform standards and impartiality of assessment.

Detailed information about the rules of participation, the list of required documents and the selection stages can be found on the official website and school resources.
