10,000 Schoolchildren Trained in the Basics of Entrepreneurship Under the Halyk Charitable Fund’s “Tälimger” Project

The challenges of the global world dictate that our country should become an entrepreneurial community, with innovation at the core of its development. As President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev noted:

“We need a new wave of entrepreneurs. The subject Fundamentals of Entrepreneurship should be studied at all levels of education—from schools to universities.”

The subject Fundamentals of Entrepreneurship and Business (FEB) has been taught in grades 10–11 of schools and colleges since 2018. To enhance the quality of entrepreneurship education, the Halyk Charitable Fund initiated the creation of the Tälimger project, which involves the authors of the FEB program and textbook.

One of the main objectives of the project is to provide methodological support to teachers and to develop entrepreneurial thinking in students by strengthening the interdisciplinary approach in the educational process and fostering global competencies in the younger generation.

According to Aigul Akhmetova, Head of the Tälimger project, the project’s methodologists developed a training program for teachers and tested it in the summer of 2023. This program was later used in a cascade model to train teachers, students, and their parents.

This year, the Tälimger project continues its training activities across various platforms in Kazakhstan, including:

  • The 1st National Eco Art Festival Aiala in Astana (June 2024)
  • The EL Umity Awards business camp (June 2024)
  • A training course titled “Progressive Strategies for Teaching Entrepreneurship and Business in Educational Institutions” for school and college principals and teachers

In total, over 10,000 people have been trained.

The challenges of today have prompted the authors of the Fundamentals of Entrepreneurship and Business (FEB) program and textbook to expand the educational content on financial literacy, strengthen the case study component with examples from local businesses, and update sections with gamification elements. As a result, methodological guidelines have been developed for lesson-by-lesson planning of the FEB course for grades 10–11, as well as for developing entrepreneurship skills through extracurricular activities.

To ensure easy access and user convenience, the educational materials are planned to be made available in the Halyk mobile banking app, under the Kündelik section on the main page.

Other practical steps in the implementation of the Tälimger project include the opening of entrepreneurship classes this year in schools located in Aktobe, Karaganda, Semey, Astana, Almaty, Ekibastuz, Kentau, and the North Kazakhstan Region.

In addition, the Tälimger project has initiated the development of a National Concept for the Development of Entrepreneurial Education in the Republic of Kazakhstan, which will elevate this area to the state level, covering all stages of education. Leading universities in the country—such as AlmaU, KBTU, and UIB—along with institutions of preschool, general secondary, and vocational education, as well as entrepreneurial associations, have been engaged in drafting this concept.

The Halyk Charitable Fund plans to further develop the Tälimger project and expand its reach. In the future, the initiative aims to cover even more regions and attract more young people to entrepreneurship training. The Tälimger project is a shining example of purposeful work and a strong commitment to improving the quality of entrepreneurial education.
